Councilman Tony Cardenas Catches “Hunger Games” Fever

On Saturday, March 31, 2012, Councilman Tony Cardenas and a group of family and friends came out to enjoy an afternoon of sunshine and shooting archery at the Woodley Park archery range. The group received instruction on range safety and shooting fundamentals from Woodley Park Archers’ Club Head Coach Don Tucci and two WPA assistant coaches. Like most adults, the councilman had shot a few times as a kid, and came out for a day of fun, and had lots of it. His form was great and he and his fellow archers nailed it with many shots in the gold 10 ring.

The Woodley Park Archery Range is located in the San Fernando Valley, near the junction of the 405 and 101 freeways. The range is open from sunrise to sundown, seven days a week, except during WPA classes, activities and events (check the WPA Range schedule for closures.) The range was founded in 1984 by the Easton Sports Development Foundation as a training facility for the Olympic Games, and is maintained by the Woodley Park Archers, the U.S. Army Corp. of Engineers and Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks.

The Woodley Park Archers provides free instructional classes every Wednesday evening and Saturday morning. For more information, go to http:// WoodleyParkArchers.Org.
